Behind the scenes at bdp…

The idea for black dog photography (bdp) started in Alberta in 2006, with a love of capturing light and moments while out walking my black labrador retriever Potter, out at Miquelon Provincial Park. When we (the Stone family) decided to move back to Manitoba in 2007, and bdp carried on. bdp has mainly been a child & family portraiture business, along with prairie vistas and landscapes, as well as some commercial work. It is now branching out to include mountain living as well with a new contributor, my sister.

black dog photography has completed work for the following: Tourism Winnipeg, Ducks Unlimited Ltd, Green Manitoba, The Aspens at Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, Killarney Dental

Behind black dog photography:

Terryl Mogk Stone

Good day! I’m Terryl and I’m the owner and principal photographer of black dog photography. Born and raised on the prairies, I am in awe of the beautiful light here in Manitoba, and happy to call Boissevain, Manitoba home.

I love the prairies. I am most content in the wide open spaces. I love the outdoors. And will tolerate mosquitoes to get out there. I love all four seasons, and the fact that we live in a province of extremes. I loved living in Alberta but am happy to be back in my home province of Manitoba. I love all my family. I have a very energetic husband whom I do adore, and I am a mother to a son and daughter (like all children, keep me hopping) who help me revisit parts of the world through their eyes. Animals are my friends – people that know me know that my dogs are spoiled rotten, and we have a variety of four-legged creature here. Ask me about them sometime.

I have a Nikon and a Canon. I don’t have a brand preference. The reality is: you need a camera to capture the image. I do think you need to print your images, that we are losing the “intimacy” of holding that print in hand to ooh and ahh over it. I believe that everyone has an artistic side, and that photography can be a great outlet to explore. I get super pumped seeing other people’s great images and feel inspired.

And I’ve turned into a harvest junkie – I’m so excited for harvest each year around here, to get out there and photograph.

I’m a teacher by trade and I love to capture everyday moments as I see them. Photography for me began as a hobby that has turned a lifetime passion into a career. Self taught with a keen eye for unique images, I strive to capture human emotions, personalities & genuine moments.

Contributor(s) to black dog photography:

Linnea Mogk

Well hello there! My name is Linnea, and I will be contributing here and there to bdp from B.C.

Most of the time, I’m having too much fun to stop and document my outdoor adventures.  But when I do, I am continually searching for a different point of view, a new unique angle and anticipating the movement of nature and rider alike. Documenting beautiful British Columbia and its wild mountain locations,  has inspired me to improve my creative energy as well as my physical energy.  The endless vistas, stunning nature and perpetual beauty of the mountains feed my desire to capture moments that words can’t describe.
